Hypothesized obstacles to the adoption of improved agricultural technologies include credit constraints, informational barriers, and lack of technical support, among others. A common approach is to "entice early adopters with subsidized access to equipment and support, with the hope that the experience will lead self-sustaining usage and diffusion.
